Bloc Quebecois wants the senate abolished to allow the house of commons to pass laws without the senate approval which means this would speed up the decision process getting laws in place quicker without the interference and possible rejection of the senate. The BQ would then use the considerable money saved to work towards their political goals including human rights issues. The Bloc Quebecois advocate for equal rights within the law for gays and lesbians including same sex marriage. They believe that homosexuals should have the same rights as heterosexuals within the law. As Pierre Trudeau, Justice minister in 1967, said “there is no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation”. The Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms takes precedence over all Quebec provincial legislations and came into force on June,27/1975 (only the constitution of Canada that includes the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms has priority over the Quebec Charter of Rights. The Bloc Quebecois are working towards preventing the federal government from interfering in any jurisdictions that they put in place in Quebec.
